The Confidante Your Source for What's New in Luxury Travel
Spring 2007

Greetings!

Travel is wonderful! As many of you have noticed, I've been enjoying a lot more of it lately, as well. With cell phones and Internet connections available everywhere now, I can be there - and here - at the same time, and always available to service your travel needs.

At left is a recent example. On a trip to Mexico City in February, and while climbing the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, you called - and I was there. Accessibility - that's what it's all about.

Internet and cell phone connections are even available on cruise ships now. This month, we were on Celebrity's Galaxy in the Mediterranean, sailing from Rome to Turkey and back through the Greek Islands, and never was I out of touch with my clients. With an Internet connection, I am at my "home office" - wherever home happens to be at that moment.

Except, at my Toronto home office, I don't think I would have gotten the same sunburn, or quite as much to eat!

A comment or two about fees

Although I am a fee-based professional, it's not a cookie-cutter approach. And as a result, there has been a little confusion recently.

I charge fees for booking tickets and for hourly services that are not otherwise compensated by suppliers. But for vacation packages (such as Air Canada Vacations) and cruises (with flights included), there are no fees.

Recently, a client for whom I handle all his travel needs, booked a cruise, "to save you the trouble." Believe me, it's no trouble! And, for no fee at all, you still get my full services and accessibility, for the same price (or less). But if I didn't book it, I can't touch it.

Regardless of whether a fee is charged, as my client you are simply assured of me: my service, my attention, my knowledge and my accessibility. It's a small price - often no price - to pay, for that assurance of the best possible.

So, let me handle all your travel experiences! For life!

    Hotel Marqués de Riscal

The new, landmark Hotel Marqués de Riscal, a member of the Starwood Luxury Collection, is nestled in Elciego, Spain, the "City of Wine." Designed by renowned architect Frank O. Gehry, this is his second masterpiece in Spain, after Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum.

Located in the heart of the Rioja wine region, the 43 guest rooms, including 11 suites, feature a modern, comfortable atmosphere and unique design with incredible views of the vineyards and town. See Hotel Marqués De Riscal

    Colonial Splendour and Spectacular Golf

Clingendael, in the Kandian Hills on the premises of the Victoria Golf & Country Resort, is some 25 minutes from Kandy, the ancient and historic hill capital of Sri Lanka. This large, stately home was built in the Dutch Sri Lankan style with material dating back to 1782. Its spacious wrap-around verandahs and colonnades relive the colonial atmosphere of comfort and service. Visitors enjoy a 230-degree breathtaking view over the reservoir of the Victoria Dam, as well as the 18-hole international championship golf course. See Clinge ndael

    The Rocky Mountaineer

Rovos Rail in South Africa. The Orient Express in Europe. And now, the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada. Three of the most famous luxury train experiences in the world, and now I can happily say, I've enjoyed them all!

Last month, several of our former guests joined us, along with family and friends for our annual Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast "Alumni" Reunion on what is deservedly billed as "The Most Spectacular Train Trip in the World" through the Canadian Rockies. There are several itineraries, but we chose what must be the best: Calgary/Banff - Kamloops - Vancouver, three nights and two spectacular days of the finest scenery Canada, or the world, has to offer.

RM offers two classes of service: Red Leaf and Gold Leaf. I'm sure Red is wonderful, but Go for Gold! The domed observation car provides an unparalleled view for all Gold passengers, as friendly guides serve complimentary drinks and snacks, point out passing attractions, and generally pamper you while a uniformed wait staff busies themselves on the lower level setting elegant tables worthy of the fine dining experiences that await you twice each day on board.

The train stops overnight in Kamloops, so we miss none of the scenery. We are whisked to hotel rooms where we find our luggage has magically already been delivered (it raced ahead of us on the highway), and dinner has already been reserved in the dining room. The trip includes premium (for Gold) hotels the night before in Calgary and in Vancouver at the end of the trip.

Other itineraries include Jasper, Quesnell and Whistler, and all are incredibly beautiful and brilliantly executed. There are so many wonderfully tempting destinations in this world, we may miss the ones right at home. Don't miss the Rocky Mountaineer, a Virtuoso tour operator. See Rocky Mountaineer

    Now affiliated with TTI

While it may have gone unnoticed to most of my clients, I have recently changed affiliation and am now working through TTI Canada, a boutique Virtuoso-appointed agency in Toronto dedicated to luxury leisure and business travel experiences. TTI, is, of course, IATA-appointed and TICO-protected, and also brings the double benefit of Virtuoso and American Express affiliations, which all adds up to even better service and options for you!
